Alison Waldman (she/her) is an architect of wellness initiatives in healthcare spaces, designing onsite and virtual patient- and provider-facing programs based in dance, mindfulness and community building. As a seasoned consultant she engages with hospital communities to disrupt burnout and instigate of healing. She works daily with doctors, nurses, and department heads to support their employees through a trauma-informed lens of arts and wellness interventions.
As a Program Advisor and Movement Artist-in-Residence at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Alison co-developed the award-winning Movement for Multiple Sclerosis program with the GU Medical Center Department of Neurology; helps leads wellness offerings; and directs the annual Day of Dance – the first site specific dance performance of its kind in a healthcare clinic.
Alison is a fervent entrepreneur and curious collaborator, combining her knowledge of the body in motion and directorship of community care into partnerships of sciences and the humanities. As an artist she is classically trained performer with a specialization in making dances in nontraditional spaces and with people with chronic pain and illness. She is an experienced yoga instructor (E-RYT 200®) specializing in trauma-informed practice with additional certifications in Accessible Yoga and Oncology Yoga.
Alison has consulted with multiple healthcare institutions on arts programs for staff care including as advisor and founding provider for Mili Health, a wellness telehealth platform for cancer patients; and the co-direction of workshops with nurse collaborators. She leads private and for-hire wellness offerings for people with chronic pain and disabilities through Available Wellness.
Alison serves as a member of the National Organization for Arts in Health (NOAH) Arts for Resilience in Clinicians working group, partnering with art therapists and arts in health leaders to highlight and strengthen staff-facing arts programs in healthcare spaces. Alison delivered her TEDx talk, “Why we should be dancing with our doctors,” in 2020.
